Trophy Club Is Named After Ben Hogan's Trophies, and It's Texas's Original Master-Planned Town

Nobody guesses the name origin right on the first try. Here's the real story, plus why people love living here.

Trophy Club has one of the best town names in Texas, and almost no one knows where it comes from. The answer involves a golf legend, a wagon train from Missouri, and a planned community that was decades ahead of its time.

The name is all about golf

When developers planned the community in the 1970s, the idea was for the country club to display the trophy collection of golf legend Ben Hogan, who designed the course. The trophies-in-the-clubhouse plan gave the town its name, and the course holds a distinction of its own: it's the only golf course Ben Hogan ever designed.

    Fun Fact

Trophy Club is considered one of the earliest premier master-planned communities in all of Texas. It was originally part of Westlake before incorporating on its own in 1985.

The roots go back a lot further

Long before the golf course, this land had pioneers. In 1847, Charles and Matilda Medlin led about twenty families by wagon train from Missouri to settle along Denton Creek, in a community called Elizabethtown. Flooding eventually pushed them to higher ground, which happens to be present-day Trophy Club. So the "newest" feeling town has some of the oldest roots around.

    An outdoor playground next door

Beyond the two golf courses and the country club, residents have Trophy Club Park: kayaking, fishing, disc golf, hiking, and some of the best ATV and motocross trails in the entire DFW area. And with Grapevine Lake just minutes away, weekends here tilt heavily toward "what do you want to do outside today."

    Buying into Trophy Club

Trophy Club is a tight-knit, upscale community, and homes here are in steady demand. Depending on the property, financing can range from conventional to jumbo, and because inventory moves, having your pre-approval lined up before you tour can be the difference between getting the house and watching it go to someone who was ready. That's where a quick call ahead of time pays off.

Setting your sights on 76262? Get pre-approved first, so when the right home shows up, you're ready.
