Keller Was Named After a Railroad Foreman, and Grew Into One of the Safest Cities in Texas

Old Town charm, a 350-acre backyard, and a farmers market that runs all summer. Keller quietly has it figured out.

Keller doesn't shout. It's not trying to be the flashiest suburb in the Metroplex. Instead it's built a reputation as one of those places where families move in and simply… stay. The story of how it got here is pure North Texas.

Named after a guy who worked the railroad

The town owes its name to John C. Keller, a foreman on the Texas and Pacific Railway in the 1880s. Keller got its start in 1881 as a stop on that line, drawing settlers with rich soil and the promise of a good living. It didn't officially incorporate until 1955, and then it grew up fast.

    Fun Fact

In 1990, Keller had fewer than 14,000 residents. By 2000 it had nearly doubled. Today it consistently ranks among the safest cities in Texas, one big reason families plant roots and never leave.

Old Town Keller still has the heart

At the center of it all is Old Town Keller, built on the original 40-acre tract that started the whole town. These days it's restored buildings, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants, plus a steady rotation of festivals, live music, and food trucks that keep the neighborhood feeling like a small town, even as the suburbs grew up around it.

    A 350-acre backyard

Then there's The Parks at Town Center: 350 acres with a lake, miles of trails, a dog park, a carousel, and a seasonal splash pad. Add the Keller Pointe rec and aquatics center and a Saturday farmers market that runs May through October, and you've got a town that genuinely wants you outside. There's even a quietly strong equestrian community, complete with riding trails and boarding facilities.

    If you're shopping in Keller

Keller offers something a little harder to find in Southlake or Colleyville: a wide price range. You'll find everything from approachable family homes to larger custom properties, which means first-time buyers, growing families, and move-up buyers all have a real shot here. The right loan depends entirely on where you land, and that's a five-minute conversation, not a research project.

Wondering what you can afford in Keller? Let's figure it out together. No jargon, no pressure.
